The 2-day ‘2016 G-FAIR Kuala Lumpur’ gets under on September 27 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, to pursue niche markets in ASEAN.

This year’s G-FAIR Kuala Lumpur is the third such occasion since events held in 2011 and 2014. It will feature an exhibition of outstanding SME products in addition to 1-on-1 export consultation sessions with buyers based on a preliminary matching process.

For this year’s G-FAIR Kuala Lumpur, 60 small and medium enterprises from Gyeonggi Province will participate and engage in comprehensive export consultations with more than 1,200 local buyers. Consultations will revolve around up-and-coming products for the Malaysian market - including beauty, food, medicine, and industrial items - given the new Korea-ASEAN FTA that will soon go into effect.

Of particular note, buyers with prior experience dealing with businesses in Gyeonggi Province and those with substantial interest in purchasing Korean products through export consultations as well as trade promotion group activities undertaken by GBC Kuala Lumpur, which acts as a trade outpost for Gyeonggi Province, were arranged for this event.

Malaysia, where this year’s G-FAIR will take place, has a population of 604 million people and a GDP of USD 2 trillion. It acts as the Chair for ASEAN, which means it is an important foothold for the expansion of Korean commercial interests into the ASEAN market.

The opening ceremony for the 2016 G-FAIR Kuala Lumpur was held at 10:30am on September 27 (local time) in the Grand Ball Room of the Hotel Shangri-La in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

For the opening ceremony, key officials from both countries including Gyeonggi Province Vice Governor Yang Bok-wan, Gyeonggi Small & Medium Business Center CEO Yoon Jong-il, and Malaysian Minister of Domestic Trade, Co-Operatives & Consumerism Dato Hamzah bin Zainudin were in attendance.

Gyeonggi Province Vice Governor Yang Bok-wan said, “We will support small and medium enterprises from Gyeonggi Province participating in this event with the expansion of their operations into new niche markets in ASEAN via Malaysia, the center for small and medium businesses in ASEAN, through this year’s G-FAIR.”
